Fabulous Over 40: Meet Peggy

Fabulous Over 40 Studio Portrait of Peggy by Julie Hood Photography

Age 71

About You:

Can you share a moment of triumph or success that you’re particularly proud of?
In 1982, my sister and I won the World Champion hand car races in Vancouver, B.C. It was so fun to compete, and we unexpectedly won the Gold Medal.

What was one of the happiest moments of your life so far?
Of course, the births of my children. Can’t beat that. But getting married 12/12/24 was a very happy moment as well. I didn’t think that I would get to feel that way again.

Looking back on your life, what’s a lesson you’ve learned that has stayed with you?
To be kind, especially to those that need it. It comes back twofold in the long run.

When in your life, so far, have you felt most confident and why?
I feel pretty darn confident right now. I’ve given up thinking that I can’t do something, because life has shown me, that oh yes, I can.

What is your favorite trait about yourself?
I like the fact that I like people. I’m friendly and loving and I want others to feel comfortable around me and know that I’m happy to see them.

Your Thoughts on Aging:

Are there any myths you would like to bust about being over 40, 50, 60 or 70?
That the best years are behind you. I’m looking forward to every year in front of me.

How has turning 40, 50, 60 or 70 changed your outlook on life?
I do realize that we are all here for the same purpose. We really only want to be happy, have happy families, and enjoy our time here.

How do you embrace the changes that come with getting older?
Meet them head on. Appreciate the fact that some people don’t get to experience those changes.

What are some of the things you enjoy now that you might not have appreciated in the past?
I enjoy quiet time. Peaceful moments are a great time to reflect and be thankful for where you’ve been and what you have experienced in your life.

Future Aspirations:

What’s one thing on your bucket list that you’re determined to accomplish and what’s your favorite thing you’ve checked off?
Still want to zip line, maybe in Costa Rica. I’ve already checked off parachuting. Also, I’m pretty sure there is a baby sloth somewhere that really wants me to hold him.

What does it mean to you to live fully at this stage of life?
No regrets, no fear. Go to bed each night with a fresh new set of memories.

What is your favorite quote or motto that inspires you?
“In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years. ” Abraham Lincoln

What is the one piece of advice you would give your 20 something self?
Peggy, don’t sweat the small stuff. It will all work out. Believe in you

Finding Joy:

What’s something that always makes you laugh, no matter how many times you hear or see it?
My family trying to outdo each other playing practical jokes.

What are you passionate about? What brings you joy?
I love camping and traveling with my hubby. So nice to go to the coast with our dogs and just totally relax.

Your Fabulous Over 40 Portrait Experience:

What made you decide to participate in the Fabulous Over 40 Portrait Experience?
I’ve always wanted to see how I would photograph in a professional setting. When Julie explained to me what it would entail, I was so ready and excited to participate.

How did the photoshoot make you feel during and after the session?
Julie made me feel pretty, I was nervous and didn’t want to disappoint her or myself. By the middle of the shoot, we were laughing and having so much fun. I, all of a sudden, just knew these pictures would be great.

How did this portrait experience change the way you see yourself?
I discovered I like the way I look. I’ve started taking more pride in my appearance. I feel more confident in my job. Julie is a great photographer and a great person.
