Fabulous Over 40: Meet Lisa

Age 63
About You:
Can you share a moment of triumph or success that you’re particularly proud of?
Finding fitness at 50 is something I’m incredibly proud of. It was a turning point for me, and since then, I’ve stayed committed to my health and wellness. Because of that commitment, I’ve completed several sprint triathlons and a few half marathons—something I never would have imagined doing before.
What was one of the happiest moments of your life so far?
Some of my happiest moments have come from watching my family succeed and seeing my grandchildren thrive. There’s so much joy and pride in witnessing their growth, accomplishments, and the amazing people they’re becoming. Nothing fills my heart more.
Looking back on your life, what’s a lesson you’ve learned that has stayed with you?
The lessons of The Four Agreements have been huge for me. Being impeccable with my word, asking for clarity, not assuming, and trying not to take things personally—those simple ideas have made a big difference in how I handle life and relationships.
When in your life, so far, have you felt most confident and why?
Honestly, it’s been later in life—like now. I feel really taken care of, and my faith is my foundation. Even though I’ve gone through some major losses in the past few years, I place my hope in what’s ahead, not what’s behind. That perspective has given me a deep sense of confidence and peace.
What is your favorite trait about yourself?
I’d say my steadfastness, loyalty, and intuition. I show up, I stick with the people I care about, and I tend to have a good sense of what’s really going on beneath the surface. Those traits have carried me through a lot and helped me be there for others too.
Your Thoughts on Aging:
Are there any myths you would like to bust about being over 40, 50, 60 or 70?
Yes! I’m happy with my age—life goes by fast, but I still feel like I’m learning and growing, even in my 60s. One myth I’d love to bust is that it’s all downhill after a certain age. That’s just not true. You’ve got to stay active and be intentional about your health and well-being.
How has turning 40, 50, 60 or 70 changed your outlook on life?
Being in my 60s has made me want to experience more—travel, try new things, and make the most of every day. I’ve realized how important it is to spend quality time with family and friends. Life really does go by fast, so I’m more focused on being present and doing what brings me joy.
How do you embrace the changes that come with getting older?
I try to stay hip—I keep an eye on trends, avoid falling into the “frump” trap, and stay curious about what other women my age are doing. I watch, learn, and take notes! Staying active is also key—it keeps me feeling good, inside and out. Aging doesn’t mean fading away; it means evolving with intention.
What are some of the things you enjoy now that you might not have appreciated in the past?
I’ve really come to appreciate slowing down. I enjoy the quiet moments now—reading more, spending time crafting, and just being still. In the past, I might have rushed through life, but now I see the value in savoring the simple things.
Future Aspirations:
What’s one thing on your bucket list that you’re determined to accomplish and what’s your favorite thing you’ve checked off?
One thing I’m determined to do is experience the pilgrimage to El Camino de Santiago. It’s been on my heart for a while, and I know it would be a powerful journey. As for my favorite thing I’ve checked off—honestly, I’m still thinking on that one! Sometimes it’s the little moments that don’t feel big at the time but end up meaning the most.
What does it mean to you to live fully at this stage of life?
Living fully at this stage of life means being debt-free, staying healthy, and having the freedom to enjoy some real downtime. It’s about simplifying, not overcomplicating, and spending meaningful time with the people I love. That’s where the joy really is.
What is your favorite quote or motto that inspires you?
To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world.
What is the one piece of advice you would give your 20 something self?
Lean in on your faith more—it’ll guide you through everything. Make good choices that align with who you really are, and whatever you do, don’t compare yourself to others.
Finding Joy:
What’s something that always makes you laugh, no matter how many times you hear or see it?
The Carol Burnett Show always gets me, especially when Tim Conway plays the old man. His slow shuffling, perfectly timed pauses, and the way he could crack up the rest of the cast—it never fails to make me laugh out loud, no matter how many times I’ve seen it.
What are you passionate about? What brings you joy?
I’m passionate about staying true to myself and my faith—that’s my foundation. Caring for others and being there when they need someone brings me a deep sense of joy. Showing up with love, integrity, and compassion is what matters most to me.
Your Fabulous Over 40 Portrait Experience:
What made you decide to participate in the Fabulous Over 40 Portrait Experience?
I saw the ad on Facebook which caught my eye. I loved that it focused on celebrating older women—it looked intriguing. Plus, I was in need of updated headshots for my coaching business.
How did the photoshoot make you feel during and after the session?
I felt like myself. Bringing in my own clothing made it fun and personal. It wasn’t just about taking photos—it felt like my personality and my faith were truly captured. Julie really went out of her way to make me feel comfortable and seen. I normally don’t like having my photo taken, but I absolutely loved these.
How did this portrait experience change the way you see yourself?
It made me feel truly seen—and pretty! I don’t usually find myself in the spotlight, but during this experience, I felt like the center of attention in the best way. It reminded me that there’s beauty in every season of life.
