Fabulous Over 40: Meet Gina

Age 53
About You:
What was one of the happiest moments of your life so far?
I find happiness in so much of life. There are many moments when I have clarity, peace and freedom and those are the moments that are happiest. Usually, I am either with those I love, in nature, being active, or creating something.
When in your life, so far, have you felt most confident and why?
I find my confidence rise up when I intentionally set my ego aside. When I don’t feel the need for validation from others and am taking care of my own needs. Thats a powerful confident time for me.
What is your favorite trait about yourself?
I’m interested in life. I love learning something new.
Your Thoughts on Aging:
Are there any myths you would like to bust about being over 40, 50, 60 or 70?
Aging isn’t the same for everyone. 50 years old can be whatever you want it to be. I’ve realized that as people age, they just become more of who they really are.
How has turning 40, 50, 60 or 70 changed your outlook on life?
I’m just more and more grateful.
What are some of the things you enjoy now that you might not have appreciated in the past?
I have a lot more time so I can now dive deep into my interests. When I was raising my boys, I thought I couldn’t do that. I would feel guilty taking time for myself.
Future Aspirations:
What does it mean to you to live fully at this stage of life?
Living fully means taking good care of myself, listening to my own heart and following my own guide. This includes challenging myself to stretch and grow.
What is the one piece of advice you would give your 20 something self?
Live your life without guilt or shame. Stop trying to please everyone.
Finding Joy:
What’s something that always makes you laugh, no matter how many times you hear or see it?
Lately I have been laughing the most when on the pickleball court. So much to laugh at there!
What are you passionate about? What brings you joy?
I find joy in so much of life. Watching my boys grown into men, taking care of my garden, practicing yoga, spending time with friends, hiking, playing pickleball, taking photos and scrapbooking, listening to music and creating something.
Your Fabulous Over 40 Portrait Experience:
What made you decide to participate in the Fabulous Over 40 Portrait Experience?
I wanted to celebrate my friend Charise’s 60th birthday in a very special way. We turned the portrait session into a wonderful girls’ weekend.
How did the photoshoot make you feel during and after the session?
During the shoot I was excited and a bit nervous. The ladies made me feel right at ease and then I relaxed and had so much fun being pampered. After I was amazed by the quality of the shots. So many beautiful pics!
