Fabulous Over 40: Meet Charise

Age 60
About You:
Can you share a moment of triumph or success that you’re particularly proud of?
Graduate degree, marathons, tough mudders and Spartan Races
What was one of the happiest moments of your life so far?
My kids, my son and daughter have brought such joy to my life and to see them as responsible kind adults makes me so proud.
Looking back on your life, what’s a lesson you’ve learned that has stayed with you?
You have to always try new challenges and keep learning. You’ll never know what you’re capable of until you try.
When in your life, so far, have you felt most confident and why?
Being older (60) is such a freeing age. You not only know yourself better, but you realize what other people think isn’t important. Your priorities change to family, love and health instead of superficial material things.
What is your favorite trait about yourself?
Sense of humor (thank you dad!). Laughing gets you through some tough times and makes the good times so much more fun.
Your Thoughts on Aging:
Are there any myths you would like to bust about being over 40, 50, 60 or 70?
It seems old until you get there! Everyone is a younger person in their mind. Don’t let a number stop you from being the age you feel.
How has turning 40, 50, 60 or 70 changed your outlook on life?
Same as above.
How do you embrace the changes that come with getting older?
I try to be proactive with my health. If something needs fixing (hip) then I fix it and move forward. You are your best advocate.
What are some of the things you enjoy now that you might not have appreciated in the past?
Walking, hiking, biking! Enjoying the beauty all around instead of going hard and competing.
Future Aspirations:
What’s one thing on your bucket list that you’re determined to accomplish and what’s your favorite thing you’ve checked off?
Traveling. There’s so much more of the world I want to see. Soon to be a Grandma!
What does it mean to you to live fully at this stage of life?
Live my life surrounded by a loving family and friends. Staying healthy and fit for as long as I can. Finding my right balance in life.
What is your favorite quote or motto that inspires you?
Appreciate each day as if it is your last.
What is the one piece of advice you would give your 20 something self?
Be confident and believe in yourself. Everything will turn out fine. Don’t waste your time on people who don’t appreciate you.
Finding Joy:
What’s something that always makes you laugh, no matter how many times you hear or see it?
Seinfeld, I Love Lucy, King of Queens, Will and Grace! Cute, adorable little kids 😍
What are you passionate about? What brings you joy?
Being around my grown kids! Traveling, and little kids.
